Welcome to Skye Fancy Fowl, Isle of Skye

Skye Fancy Fowl is set in a beautiful location, on around 10 acres of farmland, with panoramic views down to the tidal River Obbe, the township of Kyleakin, and Loch Alsh. The Skye bridge nearby leads across to the mainland and the famous railway terminus at Kyle of Lochalsh. In the distance are the "Five Sisters" mountains of Kintail.
Egg production on the island was primarily from commercially bred hybrids, but our pure breeds, attractive, and still providing eggs, became popular, leading to further expansion. Our birds live out their lives with us fully, whether laying or not, and are not 'burnt out' in 1 to 2 years like the high egg production hybrids.
All our animals are well cared for, with excellent clean housing, good food, and plenty of space to roam.
We observe and try to exceed the 'Five Freedoms' of animal welfare:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst, ready access to fresh water, including automatic drinking systems, and a balanced on demand diet, to maintain full health and vigour.
- Freedom from discomfort, by providing an appropriate environment , including shelter and a comfortable resting area. Many of our poultry coops are purposed designed and built by us, the remainder are state of the art 'Little Acre' units.
- Freedom from pain, injury, or disease , by prophylactic prevention, or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
- Freedom to express normal behaviour , by providing sufficient space, proper facilities, and company of their own kind.
- Freedom from fear and distress, by ensuring the best possible conditions and treatment, which avoids mental suffering.
